Scoreless Draw Extends @HerdWSoccer's Unbeaten Streak

BOONE, N.C. - Marshall women's soccer senior goalkeeper Lizzie Kish (Boyertown, Pa.) recorded the 15th shutout of her career in a scoreless draw with Appalachian State on Sunday at Appalachian Soccer Stadium.
With the nil-nil tie, the Herd moved to 6-1-1, and its unbeaten streak of seven matches tied a program record set in 2009. It was Marshall's first overtime game this season, and the Herd has not lost in extra minutes since Oct. 25, 2012. The Mountaineers moved to 4-2-1 on the year.
It was a slow first half, as there were a combined nine shots between the two teams and no score. Marshall had six corner kick opportunities in the first 45 minutes but could not capitalize.
The second half saw the Herd pick up the pace, out-shooting the Mountaineers 11-4 and not allowing a single Appalachian State corner kick. Time expired in regulation with nothing on the scoreboard, and so the teams moved into overtime.
Freshman Ashley Seltzer (Knoxville, Tenn.) took three shots for Marshall over two periods of extra time, but the Herd ultimately could not find the back of the net and the match ended in a scoreless draw.
Kish faced three shots on goal from the Mountaineers and made three saves in her third shutout of the season. Her 15 career blank sheets ranks No. 2 all-time for Marshall behind Liz Orton's 17 from 2006-09.
LONG STORY SHORT
Quotes by Coach Kevin Long:
On the scoreless draw:
"I think Appalachian State definitely forced us to make some changes today with their defensive pressure. At the same time, in the second half we had so many chances but we couldn't capitalize, and the game just kept going on and on with the score still 0-0. Unfortunately I don't think it was our best performance, but a lot of that should be attributed to App State and how they defended us. Now it's time for us to build and heal and get some rest for next week."
