HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall men's soccer team (4-2-0) will welcome the University of Kentucky (2-2-1) to Hoops Family Field at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex Saturday at 11 a.m. The match will be the first Conference USA games of 2015 for both teams.

As part of Saturday's "Futbol, Football" doubleheader, fans with a football ticket to the Norfolk State game at 3:30 will receive free men's soccer admission. Fans who show their men's soccer ticket when purchasing a ticket at the football gate will receive half-price admission.

VETERANS MEMORIAL CUP CO-CHAMPS

The Herd hosted No. 24 Bowling Green, Robert Morris and Evansville in the Veterans Memorial Cup last Friday and Sunday. Marshall won its home opener 3-1 against Robert Morris on Friday. On Sunday, the Herd's four-game win streak was snapped by a 1-0 loss to Evansville.

Each team won and lost one game, which meant goal differential served as the tiebreaker. Marshall and Bowling Green both had a goal differential of +1, which made the two sides co-champions.

HERD STRONG IN C-USA OPENERS

Marshall is 4-1 in its last five Conference USA opening matches, with the lone loss coming to No. 25 New Mexico in 2013.

2012: Memphis (W, 1-0)

2011: FIU (W, 2-1 2OT)

2010: Memphis (W, 2-1 OT)

NATIONAL STATISTICS SUMMARY

Senior midfielder Jack Hopkins (Birmingham, Ala.) ranks No. 4 in NCAA Division I in assists, with four. He also leads Conference USA.

Junior Rimario Gordon (Kingston, Jamaica) and freshman Chris Taibi (Wantagh, N.Y.) rank No. 7 in game-winning goals with two apiece. The duo are tied for No. 2 in C-USA.

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Bijan Glsoton (Clarksville, Tenn.) ranks No. 14 in D-I and No. 1 in C-USA in saves per game, with 5.25. His .840 save percentage ranks No. 24 and No. 1 in conference.

Marshall's goalkeeping unit as a whole rank No. 5 in saves per game, with 6.00, also No. 1 in Conference USA.

SCOUTING THE (RV) WILDCATS

Kentucky is 2-2-1 and received votes in the latest NSCAA poll. The Wildcats won last season's contest 2-0 in Lexington, with Napo Matsoso and Jason Pitts scoring the two Wildcats goals. Marshall's record in the series is 14-16-3.

The Wildcats have only managed five goals in five contests, with Noah Hutchins leading the way with two. Andrew McKelvey leads the team in assists with two. Johan Cedergren is in his fourth season as coach.
