WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Marshall tennis team completed day two of the Tribe Invite on Saturday, Sept. 19.
The Herd competed against Dartmouth and VCU in doubles, while it faced Penn in singles.
The Herd went winless against Dartmouth, but bounced back with a win against VCU. The duo of Jackie Carr (Rogers, Ark.) and Rachel Morales (Columbus, Ohio) dominated play, as they shutout the team of Morar and Segerfors.
In singles play, Marshall struggled to find a win, but battled throughout as it forced three sets in three different matches. Derya Turhan (Bad Salzuflen, Germany), Morales and Marija Bogicevic (Belgrade, Seriba) all went to the tie-breaking set. The closest match for the Herd was Morales', as she dropped the first set, but won the second set, 7-6. In the final set the junior fell 6-4.
"Definitely played better, so hopefully we'll continue to show progress tomorrow," Herd coach John Mercer said.
Marshall will face the host school, William & Mary tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
