Day Three Results
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Marshall tennis wrapped up the Tribe Invite on Sunday with a match against the host school, William & Mary.
In the No. 1 singles match for Marshall was junior Derya Turhan (Bad Salzuflen, Germany), who faced off against the Tribe's Olivia Thaler. Turhan went on to win in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Marshall went on to fall in the other matches against W&M, but was able to keep it close in the No. 5 match. After dropping the first set, Anne Gulsrud (Stavanger, Norway) responded in the second with a 6-2 set victory to force a tie-breaking set. In the final set the junior fell 6-2.
"I thought Derya [Turhan] had a good win today," Herd coach John Mercer said. "I thought we improved as the tournament went along but obviously have a lot of work to do."
The Herd will be back in action at the UVa Fall Invite that will take place from Sept. 25-27.
