Senior CLASS Award Profiles: Kelly Culicerto, Nick Edginton

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -
Marshall soccer student-athletes Kelly Culicerto (Charlotte, N.C.) and Nick Edginton (Wellington, New Zealand) were each named candidates for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award, the organization announced Thursday.

Culicerto became Marshall's first women's soccer player to earn All-Conference USA first team honors as a junior in 2014. She was named to the 2014 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Central Region Second Team, leading the Herd with eight goals and 17 points. In addition to her athletic honors, Culicerto was named an All-Academic selection with a 3.77 GPA in business. Earlier this summer, she was tabbed Preseason All-Conference USA by the league's coaches after her strong 2014 campaign.

"Kelly being nominated as a candidate for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award is a real testament to her dedication both on and off the field," Herd women's coach Kevin Long said. "She is pursuing excellence in everything she does, knowing and engaging in the extra work required to be a high achiever. She and all of these athletes nominated have done such an incredible job balancing athletics and academics. The women's soccer team does very well collectively in the classroom, and I know I speak for all of the Herd when I say we are proud to have Kelly representing us as a candidate for such a prestigious award."

In his junior season, Edginton started all 19 games, scoring a goal and chipping in four assists. He was rewarded for his stellar play by Conference USA, as he was named to the All-C-USA third team by league coaches. He has been selected as a captain in each of his last three seasons. Edginton is also a two-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll with a 3.08 GPA in business management.

"I think Nick is an excellent choice for the award," Herd men's coach Bob Gray said. "You won't find a harder worker on or off the field. He's about as nice a guy as you can find, but in game he's such a hard competitor. He's a very focused student in the classroom as well."

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

Each of the two 30-candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2015 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships in December.
