CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Marshall tennis rallied back from being down 1-3 to defeat the Yale Bulldogs, 4-3, on Saturday evening at the ITA Kick-off Weekend.

The Herd improves to 1-1 overall, while Yale falls to 0-2.

"Definitely one of the gutsiest performances I've ever seen from a Marshall tennis team," Head coach John Mercer said. "To beat a very good nationally ranked Yale team was done on just pure will power. Given that we are down to six players and all the health issues that are going on, I couldn't be more proud of all our players."

The Herd found itself on the board first, as it earned the doubles point. The tandem of Derya Turhan (Bad Salzuflen, Germany) and Rachael Morales (Columbus, Ohio) gave Marshall an early edge by winning 6-1 on the first court against Yale's Tina Jiang and Madeleine Hamilton. After the Bulldogs tied it with a victory on the second court, the duo of Marija Bogicevic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Anne Gulsrud (Stavanger, Norway) clinched the point for the Herd with a 6-4 win over Carol Finke and Caroline Lynch.

Marshall went into singles play with an advantage, but Yale turned the tables as it took a 3-1 lead with three straight wins. Elizabeth Zordani defeated Gulsrud on the sixth court, while Bogicevic fell to Finke in the fourth flight. Anna Pomyatinskaya (Sochi, Russia) succumbed to an injury that occurred in Friday's match, which forced her to retire and gave the point to the Bulldogs.

Yale was one game away from taking the match, but Marshall rallied from the play of Turhan, Morales and Maddie Silver (East Grand Rapids, Mich.). All three took the first set in their games, but then dropped the second set. In the tie-breaking sets, Silver was the first to defeat her opponent, as she took a 6-3 win in the final set. Morales followed up next with a 6-0 sweep over Li. Turhan clinched the come-from-behind victory for the Herd with a 6-1 set win.
