Meet Results

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University swimming and diving team completed its final road meet of the regular season Saturday in Nashville, Tenn. The Herd defeated North Florida 188-72 and lost 147-113 to Vanderbilt.

Marshall was led by sophomore Madi Pulfer (Ottowa, Ontatio), who recorded two wins. Pulfer won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.05 and also cruised to victory in the 500 freestyle (5:02.32). She also finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:52.14).

Sophomore Gloriya Mavrova (Alexandria, Va.) won the 50 freestyle, posting a time of 24.25. She also finished second in the 52.88, but her time was a season best.

Freshman Caroline Wanner (Stafford, Va.) won the 400 IM with a time of 4:25.39, nearly five seconds faster than the closest competitor.

Herd swimmers finishing second were Anna Lynch (1,000 freestyle, 10:20.05), Chloe Parsemain in the 100 backstroke (58.51) and 100 butterfly (57.80) and Emma Lockyer (200 breastroke, 2:26.96). Vanderbilt does not feature diving.

Tramel Talk
Marshall coach Bill Tramel on the meet:

"We were just ok today. We went up against an SEC team in Vanderbilt today. Vanderbilt had a long trip to Missouri Thursday and really bounced back well today. North Florida had a great meet with a school record today. We were fortunate enough to get by North Florida, but to beat an SEC team, we needed better than an ok performance."

"I thought we had some good things today with a few unrested season bests. Madi Pulfer, Anna Lynch and Brittany Wilkerson were all very good today. Gloriya Mavrova had a big win in the 50 Free. She got beat in the 100 but the time was a season best unrested so that's about all we can really ask for. Very happy with that."

"What our team needs to do better is fight. We didn't compete diving today so we didn't have them to lean on. At half time, we were down 21, which is not a lot. I asked for some push back and we didn't really respond. We've surprised some teams over the past few years where we have been ahead at half time. Those teams push back and step up their game in the second half trying to catch us. Today, we needed to be the team pushing back and we didn't do that as a team."

"Next week we wrap up our regular season. It will be easier to perform since the events are spread out over two days and the meet is at home. The setting is favorable, so we hope to finish strong."
