@Herd_Tennis Completes Opening Day at ITA Atlantic Regional

NORFOLK, Va. - The Marshall women's tennis team wrapped up a successful first day at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center, winning three matches Friday.
Stephanie Smith and Rachael Morales won the only doubles match played by the Herd. Maddie Silver won both of her qualifier bracket matches to earn a spot in the main singles draw.
Silver opened her day by defeating Adriana Rajkovic of host school Old Dominion in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. She later won a tightly contested three-set match over Gabriela Rezende of Pitt, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. Anna Pomyatinskaya lost in the first round of the qualifier draw to Jona Roka of James Madison, 6-0, 6-2. Smith and Morales coasted to an 8-3 win over Claire Minnoe and Alex Zachem of St. Joseph's (PA) in the opening round of the doubles main draw. Derya Turhan and Pomyatinskaya received a bye into the second round of the draw.
Doubles play continues tomorrow with second round action beginning at 9 a.m. Singles main draw matches begin tomorrow starting at 1 p.m.
