HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall punter Kaare Vedvik was named Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week Monday afternoon in an announcement made by the league office.
The Thundering Herd fell 24-14 at Southern Miss Saturday evening, but Marshall's junior punter had a career day.
Vedvik kept Southern Miss backed up all night as he averaged 46.9 yards on 10 punts, while downing six inside the 20 yard line, a figure that is just one off the school record. His 72-yard kick in the first quarter, the fifth-longest in Marshall history, forced USM to start from its five-yard line.
Marshall will be back in action Saturday when it travels to Old Dominion for a 7 p.m. kick.
