Turhan, Silver Capture Singles Flight Titles at CofC Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Marshall women's tennis team closed out the CofC Classic Sunday by winning four singles matches and a doubles match. Derya Turhan and Maddie Silver each won singles flight titles for the Herd. Marshall finished the three-day event with 20 match wins, the highest total in any fall tournament for Marshall this season.
Turhan, Silver, Marija Bogicevic and Daniela Dankanych won singles matches for the Herd versus Samford Sunday. Turhan and Bogicevic teamed up to win a doubles match against the College of Charleston.
The Herd began the final day of the tournament Sunday with three doubles matches against the host College of Charleston. Turhan and Bogicevic defeated Liza Fieldsend and Rachel McNeely, 6-3. Silver and Rachael Morales lost to Christi Woodson and Mara Argyriou, 6-3. Dankanych and Stephanie Smith fell to Anastasia
Marshall closed out its fall season with six singles matches against the Samford Bulldogs. Turhan wrapped up an undefeated weekend in singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 straight-sets win over Savannah Wood. Silver captured the No. 3 singles flight title with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Arianna Beltrame. Dankanych defeated Elsa Pool in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. Bogicevic lost just two games in a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win over Georgina Jupp. Morales fell to Ellie Gerlach, 6-2, 6-4. Nikola Novackova was defeated by Grace Jennings in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
