2017 Marshall Softball Schedule
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall softball team announced its 2017 schedule Friday. The Thundering Herd will take on three NCAA tournament participants in the first three weeks of the season.
The season will get started Feb. 10-12 at the Unconquered Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla., hosted by Florida State. The Seminoles swept its way through the ACC Championship tournament, the NCAA Regional, the Super Regional and went 2-2 at the Women's College World Series. Florida State was eliminated by Auburn in eight innings as the Tigers advanced to the final.
The other teams in the first tournament of the season are Lipscomb and Furman.
The Herd will return to the Sunshine State to play in the Orange Blossom Invitational in Orlando, Feb. 17-18. Marshall will play against Delaware, Bethune-Cookman, Stetson and Providence.
The third week of the season, Marshall heads south to Chapel Hill, N.C., to the Carolina Classic, Feb. 24-26. Along with the host school, UNC, the Herd will take on Miami of Ohio, Hampton and Towson. Marshall wraps up the end of the early season tournaments in Statesboro, Ga., at the Eagle Classic hosted by Georgia Southern, March 3-5. The Herd will take on South Carolina State, Presbyterian, Eastern Kentucky, Delaware State and Georgia Southern.
In Conference USA action in 2017, the Herd will host UTSA (March 11-12), WKU (March 25-26), FAU (April 8-9) and UAB (May 5-6) at Dot Hicks Field. On the road in conference action Marshall visits Charlotte (March 18-19), Southern Miss (April 1-2), FIU (April 14-15) and Middle Tennessee State (April 29-30).
In non-conference action Marshall splits a home-and-home series with both Morehead State and Ohio. Among other non-conference action Marshall visits the Kentucky Wildcats on April 11 and then has three-game series with the Virginia Tech Hokies, April 21-22.
The 2017 Conference USA tournament will be hosted in Hattiesburg, Miss., May 10-13.
