A WIN WOULDââ'¬Â¦
- Give Marshall its best 13-game start to league play since going 10-3 in the 1996-97 Southern Conference under Greg White
- Be the Herd's first against Charlotte under second-year coach Dan D'Antoni (0-3)
- Snap a four-game win streak in the series for the 49ers, dating to March 2014
- Be the Herd's first against the 49ers in Huntington since Dec. 5, 1972 (74-59)
- Even the series at 6-6
- Give the Herd its most wins in a season (14) since going 21-14 in 2011-12, and its most Conference USA wins (10) since going 11-5 in 2009-10
SCOUTING THE 49ERS
Marshall is looking for redemption against surging Charlotte team that averaged 102.5 points in a pair of games last week. In conference play, Marshall and Charlotte rank No. 1 and 2 in scoring offense with 93.3 ppg and 82.9 ppg, respectively, and 3-point field goals made (11.8 and 9.8). Joseph Uchebo leads C-USA with 12 double-doubles and 11.2 rebounds per game.
Marshall has not defeated the 49ers when playing in Huntington since Dec. 5, 1972 (74-59), and has dropped the last four meetings. The Herd's last win in the series was in Charlotte on Feb. 15, 2014 (59-56).
FRIENDS OF COAL NIGHT
Thursday's game will be a "blackout" in honor of Friends of Coal Night. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive commemorative black t-shirts. Marshall will wear black uniforms for the second time this year, after the C-USA season-opening win against WKU on Jan. 3.
