Marshall Tennis Host In-State Rival West Virginia

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall tennis (4-8) closes out its three-match homestand on Friday as it welcomes in-state rival West Virginia to the outdoor tennis courts on the campus of Marshall University on Friday at 3 p.m.
If there is inclement weather, the match will be moved to the Huntington Tennis Club.
THE HISTORY
Friday's match will be the 20th meeting all-time against the Herd and Mountaineers. Marshall has dominated play in the past with 15 wins, while West Virginia only has four wins. The two teams have met for the last 10 years with Marshall winning nine of the 10 last meetings.
HAVE YOU HERD?
Despite suffering back-to-back 4-3 losses last weekend to VCU and FIU, junior Rachael Morales (Columbus, Ohio) picked up a win against the Panthers. This season, Morales is 8-2 with seven wins coming in the No. 2 spot.
In the latest ITA rankings that came out Wednesday, junior Derya Turhan (Bad Salzuflen, Germany) is ranked 122.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
West Virginia is coming off a disappointing 2-5 loss to Maryland last Saturday. The Mountaineers, who were ranked No. 75 last week, dropped out of the rankings with the loss. This season, WVU is 6-4 with victories over Toledo, Cleveland State, Akron, Buffalo, James Madison and Cornell.
The Mountaineers have been led by sophomore Habiba Shaker from the No. 2 singles spot with a perfect 9-0 record. Shaker's lone loss in dual matches came in the No. 1 spot.

UP NEXT
Marshall hits the road for a four-match trip beginning at William & Mary on March 20 at 2 p.m. The Herd will also travel to College of Charleston, Charlotte and Winthrop.
