SORRENTO, Fla. - For the second consecutive round, freshman Joey Walz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tied her career-low score of 2-over-par 74 to close out the Morehead State Citrus Challenge at Red Tail Golf Club on Tuesday.

Walz posted 74 for the third time in her young career, including Monday and the second day of the Pinehurst Challenge on Oct. 11, 2015. She led the Herd with a three-round total of 15-over 231.

As a team, the Herd improved by 19 strokes from the previous day to post its best round (301) of the spring season, finishing 17th at 943.

ON THE LEADERBOARD
Three teams co-championed the event at 35-over 899: WKU, Elon and James Madison. Elon's Kelsey Badmaev was named individual champion at 2-under 214.

PRATS' POINTS
Quotes from head coach Tiffany Prats:
On Joey Walz:
"Joey had another solid round today. She hit the ball extremely well and gave herself some good opportunities to shoot a low score. The more she puts herself in this position, the more comfortable she will become and will start having under-par rounds."

On the team's improvement in the final round:
"As a team our top four showed some grit today and got it around the course. They all had a few bad holes but overall they played good golf. These girls can all play golf but they have to believe and commit to what we are trying to do. Leigha [Holt], Joey [Walz] and Sarfina [Seretharan] all had chances to shoot under par today which is a positive for our team. Sarfina and Leigha both battled back today after a couple days where things were out of sorts."

On moving forward to the next tournament, the Bearcats Spring Classic:
"I hope moving on to Mission Inn this week [at the Bearcats Spring Classic] the girls have adjusted to golf in Florida and are ready to compete. We will see a lot of the same schools so it is important for us to go out and play some solid golf from the first tee shot on Friday. We will have the day off tomorrow and be back to work on Thursday for our practice round."
