ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Marshall tennis team suffered a 6-1 setback against the No. 68 Winthrop Eagles on Sunday at the Memorial Courts.
The Thundering Herd falls to 8-9, while the Eagles move to 16-3.
Junior Derya Turhan picked up the lone point for the Herd with a straight set victory in the first singles position. Turhan defeated Lauren Proctor, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (3). The Bad Salzuflen, Germany native, handed Proctor (17-2) her second loss of the season, while Turhan improves to 11-3.
The Herd struggled in singles action on courts two through six. Rachael Morales (Columbus, Ohio), Anna Pomyatinskaya (Sochi, Russia) and Marija Bogicevic (Belgrade, Serbia) were defeated in straight sets. Maddie Silver (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Anne Gulsrud (Stavanger, Norway) battled, as they were able to win one set in their respective matches.
Marshall's only other win came in doubles play from the tandem of Silver and Morales. The duo improves to 5-0, with a victory over Caitlin Cridland and Megan Kaufmann, 6-4. The Herd dropped the doubles point by losing 7-6 (5) in the first match, while 6-1 on the third court.

UP NEXT
Marshall will wrap up its regular season with a three-match homestand. The Herd welcomes Cincinnati on Friday at 1 p.m., followed by Xavier on Sunday at 1 p.m. MU closes the season on April 16 against Old Dominion.
