Herd Tennis Dominates Bearcats

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Marshall women's tennis team stormed to a 6-1 victory and won its fifth match in its last six against Cincinnati Friday at the Huntington Tennis Club.
The Herd moves to 9-9, while Cincinnati falls to 9-7.
The Herd was paced by junior Derya Turhan (Bad Salzuflen, Germany), who defeated Ali Miller 6-0, 6-1 in number one singles.
Two more Herd players won in straight sets. Junior Rachael Morales (Columbus, Ohio) topped Antonella Bramato 7-6, 7-5 in number three singles, coming back from 5-1 down in set one. Sophomore Maddie Silver (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) dispatched Katya Bure 6-2, 6-2 in number four singles.
Junior Anna Pomyatinskaya (Sochi, Russia) beat Lauren Bellinger in number two singles 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, while sophomore Marija Bogicevic (Belgrade, Serbia) won number five singles against Harley Hutchison, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.
The Herd also won the doubles point. The team of Turhan and Pomyatinskaya defeated Cincinnati's Laura Bellinger and Ali Miller 6-3. Maddie Silver and Rachael Morales defeated Harley Hutchinson and Samantha Perry 6-3.
"It was good to get the win against a Cincinnati team that was very feisty and competitive today," Marshall coach John Mercer said. "I thought we did a good job staying in our matches, fighting through them and pulling it out even though we had some adversity. I'm looking forward to Sunday and I'm sure we'll get another feisty Xavier team, so we'll see what happens."
