Freshman Cards First Top 10 Finish

BEALLSVILLE, Md. - Freshman Joey Walz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) carded the best finish of her Marshall women's golf career, placing eighth at the Hoya Invitational at Four Streams on Tuesday.
Walz tied with three other golfers at 23-over-par 239. She completed the final round with an 81 after posting 77 and 81, respectively, on Monday's 36 holes. The Herd finished sixth with a 978 team total.
ON THE LEADERBOARD
Princeton took the team championship by 13 strokes, at 939. Host Georgetown finished in second at 952. Anna Kim of St. John's claimed the individual medal with a 7-over 223, 10 strokes ahead three golfers who tied for second.

"I'm happy that Joey got her first top 10 finish. Today the conditions were really rough, being cold and windy on a course that didn't allow for many low scores. She hit the ball well this week and also hit good shots around the greens."
On making adjustments before the Conference USA Championship:
"As a team we have some work that has to get done before conference. These girl have the game, I just need them to be fully committed and willing to work. Going into conference we have to eliminate big numbers. Every team makes bogeys but the top teams don't make doubles. As I look at stats, that is where we have to improve. If we make a mistake we have to be willing to make bogey and not try to make something happen that isn't there. That is when you make big numbers. Over the next week we will be working on taking what the course gives us."
