DENTON, Texas - Marshall softball is set for its first round matchup with the UTSA Roadrunners Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. eastern. The Thundering Herd (29-25, 13-11 C-USA) is the fifth seed and the Roadrunners (20-32, 11-13 C-USA) is the eighth seed.
The first day of the Conference USA Tournament is single elimination as the five and eight seeds play followed by the six (UTEP) and seven (FIU) seeds. The winners move on to play a second game Wednesday. The winner of the Marshall and UTSA game will play the fourth seed Louisiana Tech at 6 p.m. eastern. The winner between UTEP and FIU will play the three seed Southern Miss at 8:30 p.m. eastern.
Wednesday afternoon will be the first ever meeting between Marshall and UTSA. Marshall is coming off a series win over WKU to finish the regular season. The Herd won the first game 2-1 and dropped the second game of the doubleheader, 6-4. Marshall came back the second day and took the series with a 10-3 win.
UTSA ended the regular season at home against #22 FAU. The Roadrunners were swept by the Conference USA regular season Champions.
If Marshall wins it will move on to play La Tech in the third game of the day. The Herd has only played the Lady Techsters just three times in a conference series in Huntington to end the 2014 regular season. Marshall swept the series.
