Kelly to Compete in NBA Summer League

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ââ'¬" Former Marshall University forward James Kelly (Ann Arbor, Mich.) will compete for the Charlotte Hornets as part of the 2016 NBA Summer League series at the Orlando Magic's practice court at Amway Center, July 2-8.
Kelly is the first member of the Thundering Herd to play in the league since Hassan Whiteside in July 2014. Whiteside signed a multi-year contract with the Miami Heat on November 24, 2014.
Kelly led Marshall with 20.1 points and 9.8 rebounds per game en route to becoming the Herd's first All-Conference USA first team selection and Newcomer of the Year in 2016. The Miami (Fla.) transfer also paced the team in steals (1.3) and blocks (1.1) while posting 15 double-doubles. He led the league in defensive rebounding (8.0 per game) and was third in scoring and overall rebounding. He was the first player in Marshall history to post a combination of 663 points and 324 rebounds in a single season. Kelly earned All-District first team honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
Herd coach Dan D'Antoni is a former NBA Summer League head coach, leading the Knicks and Lakers in conjunction with his assistant coach position under brother Mike D'Antoni.
The Hornets will play five games over the course of seven days at the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League. NBA teams scheduled to participate include the Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder and two teams from the host Orlando Magic.
