Huntington, W. Va. – The Big Green Scholarship Foundation announces the conclusion of its 2016 Membership Drive contest.
On April 30 of this year, the Big Green began a two-month long campaign with the hopes of recruiting an additional 200 new members to the Big Green Annual Fund. Big Green Board members, Big Green Chapters, and Big Green members were drafted into six teams, all competing to recruit the most new members.
This Membership Drive Contest is part of the Big Green initiative to reach 3,300 members for 2016. “It gives me a great feeling knowing that we are helping student-athletes earn a degree,” said Big Green Board member Jim Butler. “They spend so much time and effort representing our university in great ways. We enjoy watching every team excel in their sport and seeing each athlete grow during their time at Marshall.”
Jim Butler recruited 40 new Big Green members during the drive.
The contest concluded on July 7, 2016, but the Big Green is hoping to announce a record membership number by the Paint the Capital City Green event on August 25 in Charleston.
By the conclusion of the drive, the six teams-all named for Herd greats such as Chad Pennington and Charlie Slack- recruited 310 new Big Green Annual Fund members, raising more than $31,000.00 for Marshall student-athlete scholarships.
Throughout the membership drive months, the Big Green made 12 Coaches Tour stops, beginning with Lincoln County and ending with the state of the university address in Washington, D.C.
“I know I can speak for all of us in Central Kentucky that we were excited to help our student-athletes with their ability to attend the greatest university there is,” said Rusty Cook, president of the Central Kentucky Big Green Chapter. “We had the privilege of attending the HERDSPYS Awards in April, and when you hear our athletes speak and you hear their stories, you can’t help but be motivated to make a difference. We are helping them follow their dreams, and that is so special to be a part of.”
