HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall’s swimming & diving program received the 2015-16 Conference USA Sport Academic Award for the second straight year, the league announced Tuesday.
The Sport Academic Award is given to the team in each conference-sponsored sport with the highest GPA for the academic year. The Thundering Herd combined for a 3.68 grade point average this season. Nine different Rice teams recorded the highest GPA for their respective sports, while Middle Tennessee had two teams and Marshall, Charlotte, New Mexico, UTEP, UTSA and WKU each had one recipient.
In June, the Herd earned recognition from the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as it finished the spring semester with a 3.68 team grade point average. The mark is the highest in program history and fourth highest GPA in the nation among women’s Division I swimming and diving programs.
Marshall has earned the accolade four times previously (2014-15, 2013-14-tied, 2006-07, 2005-06).
