Wolverines Down Thundering Herd, 4-1

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Michigan forward Nicky Waldeck scored twice to lead a stout Wolverine women's soccer squad in a 4-1 defeat of visiting Marshall.
Michigan improved to 1-0-1 on the season, while the Thundering Herd dropped to 0-2.
Midfielder Ani Sarkisian had a goal and assist for the home team and midfielder Abby Kastroll added a pair of assists.
Marshall forward Jordan Sackaris scored the Thundering Herd's goal, her second of the season, on an assist from forward Sydney Arnold.
Sarkisian put Michigan on the board first when she put in a cross from the top of the six-yard box off assists from Kastroll and Jackie White eight minutes, 16 seconds into the match.
Forty-five seconds later, Kastroll was on the passing end again as she sent a long ball over the top to Waldeck who was alone with Thundering Herd goalie Erin Moreland before depositing the shot into the back of the net.
Forward Brooke Desantis made it 3-0 Wolverines in the 30th minute when she, too, found herself 1v1 with Moreland on a Sarkisian pass and slotted the ball into the goal.
The Thundering Herd pulled one back when Sackaris took a through ball from Arnold at the top of the six-yard box and put it into the corner in the 56th minute.
Waldeck provided the final margin when she headed in a Reilly Martin corner kick on the back post in the 81st minute.
Arnold led Marshall with four shots and forward Ashley Seltzer added three to lead an effort that saw the visitors outshoot Michigan 13-11.
The Thundering Herd will be back in action Friday when it travels to Longwood for a 7 p.m. contest.
