IRVING, Tx. – Marshall junior Emily Moreland was named Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Week Monday by the league office.

Moreland registered her first shutout that led to a 1-0 win over Longwood. The Springboro, Ohio, native played all 90 minutes and recorded four saves for her first keeper of the week honor.

“I am thrilled for Emily and the team as a whole,” said Marshall coach Kevin Long. “We are playing with many new players and to record the shutout and the win at Longwood, is not only a statement of the hard work Emily has individually been putting in, but a product of a defensive unit which is also improving with each game played.”

“This has to be a boost to the Emily’s and the team’s confidence moving into another competitive weekend.”

The Thundering Herd (1-2) will begin its 2016 home slate Friday with a 7 p.m. match against IUPUI and a 4 p.m. contest versus ETSU on Sunday.
