WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -The Marshall women's tennis team concluded the opening day of the Tribe Invite at William and Mary Friday, winning one doubles match and three singles matches.

The duo of junior Stephanie Smith and senior Derya Turhan picked up a doubles win over Conference USA foe Old Dominion. Seniors Anna Pomyatinskaya and Rachael Morales and junior Maddie Silver each earned singles wins over Penn.

The Herd opened competition with a doubles match against Old Dominion. Smith and Turhan won their match in a tiebreak over Rajkovic and Vojcinakova, 8-7 (3). Pomyatinskaya and Silver fell in a tiebreak to Hutchinson and Vlasova, 8-7 (4). The duo of Morales and Daniela Dankanych lost to Botusharova and Novakovic, 8-2. Marshall and ODU also played one singles match, with the Herd's Nikola Novackova falling to ODU's Natalya Malenko, 8-6.

Marshall was able to earn three singles matches against Penn later in the day. Pomyatinskaya earned a hard-fought three set win over Luba Vazhenina of the Quakers, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Morales won against Marta Kowalska, 6-2, 6-3. Silver picked up a win over Nicole Berkman, 6-0, 6-2. Turhan dropped a close match to Kana Daniel, 6-4, 7-6 (6). Smith fell to Sarah Dreyfuss, 6-2, 6-3. Dankanych lost to Ashley Zhu, 6-1, 6-0. Novackova dropped her match against Lina Qostal, 6-1, 6-2. Marija Bogicevic lost to OJ Singh, 6-3, 6-4.
