ASHLAND, Ky. - The Marshall softball team exploded for all nine of its runs in the third inning on the way to a 9-2 win over Kentucky Christian at the Championship Fastpitch Complex.
Marshall recorded twelve hits during the game with eight coming in the third. Senior Morgan Zerkle got the inning started with a double to left center and then advanced on an error by the second baseman covering the bag. Zerkle stayed at third while junior Eloise Tribolet dropped down a bunt that turned into a double as the French National team member kept rounding around first as she noticed no one covering second. Senior Shaelynn Braxton loaded the bases after drawing a walk.
Junior Taylor McCord drove a pitch into left field scoring both Zerkle and Tribolet to break the scoreless tie. Sophomore Briana Daiss followed up with a two RBI double, deep to center that scored Braxton and junior Jordan Colliflower who had entered to run for McCord.
Sophomores Hayden Ellis, Ali Burdette and Samantha Loose and then Colliflower kept the inning going scoring three more runs to put the score at 7-0. Zerkle capped off the inning blasting a two-run home run to center.
All four of Marshall pitchers saw time in the circle. Burdette started the game and pitched the first inning. Freshman Kailee Williamson threw innings two through four. Senior Jordan Dixon pitched the fifth and sixth while sophomore Abigail Tolbert finished off the seventh.
