@HerdMBB to Host WKU in Nationally Televised Contest

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall men's basketball team will return home to take on the WKU Hilltoppers on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcasted across the country on the American Sports Network. Jeff McCarrager will handle the play-by-play and Tim Scarborough will be the analyst. Locally, the game can be found on Fox 11, WVAH.

In addition to coverage from @HerdMBB on Twitter and Instagram, the game can be found on the Thundering Herd IMG Sports Network with Steve Cotton on the call and Woody Woodrum handling the analysis. Live stats will be available through HerdZone.com.

HAVE YOU HERD
Marshall suffered its second straight loss when it fell to UAB, 94-78.The Herd allowed 60 points in the second half. Marshall started a new streak of scoring at least 70 points in a game. Jon Elmore scored at least 10 points in his 19th consecutive games. Terrence Thompson scored 12 points. It was the first time he scored in the double figures since scoring 20 against Jackson State (Nov. 21). Austin Loop is now two 3-pointers away from being tied at No. 2 overall in career three-pointers in school history. Ryan Taylor had his first multi-block game since collecting five against Old Dominion (Jan. 5). Ryan Taylor collected his 34th career double-double. He leads C-USA.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
Among the 40-plus Division I men's basketball coaching hires over the offseason, Rick Stansbury ranked fifth with 293 career Division I wins. Among those new Division I hires across the country, Stansbury was also tied for fifth in NCAA Tournament appearances with six. The Hilltoppers were projected to be the No. 3 team in the league in the C-USA preseason poll, which is voted on by coaches across the conference.

WKU has advanced to the semifinals of the C-USA league tournament in 11 of the last 12 seasons, including a run to the 2016 Conference USA Tournament semifinals. WKU is 55-16 (.775) at the E.A. Diddle Arena over the last four seasons. This season, it is 6-1 at home, but 3-8 on the road.

WHO TO KNOW
Graduate transfer guard Que Johnson reached the 1,000-point career mark across his time at WKU and Washington State on Dec. 21, 2016. Johnson leads the Hilltoppers at 14.8 points per game with 40 made 3-pointers. Justin Johnson was named to the 2016-17 C-USA preseason All-Conference team. He was the first preseason selection from WKU since George Fant and T.J. Price were named to the team during the 2014-15 season. Johnson is averaging 12.9 points per game and a team-leading 8.0 boards.

SERIES HISTORY
Marshall will meet WKU for the 22nd contest between the two sides. It is a series that dates back to the 1943-44 season and has been sporadic throughout. The two sides met in the 50s and 60s, but did not meet again until the 2003-04 season. The teams renewed the series when WKU joined C-USA in the 2013-14 season.

LAST TIME

Sophomore point guard Jon Elmore (Charleston, W.Va.) posted his first double-double with 24 points and 10 assists in a 96-93 overtime road win at WKU on Feb. 13, 2016 at E.A. Diddle Arena.

The Thundering Herd improved to 13-12, 9-3 in Conference USA play. It was Marshall's first win in Bowling Green, now at 1-7 all-time. The Hilltoppers fell to 12-13, 4-8.

Elmore led the Herd in scoring, tied with senior James Kelly (Ann Arbor, Mich.). Junior Stevie Browning (Logan, W.Va.) was the only other Marshall player in double-figure scoring, with 17 points.

MEN'S BASKETBALL TO HOST 1971-72 TEAM REUNION
The M Club will be holding a reunion for the 1971-72 Marshall Men's Basketball team that finished No. 12 in the nation and with a 23-4 record. The Thundering Herd team recorded just one loss in the Veterans Memorial Fieldhouse that season and boasts four Marshall University Athletics Hall of Fame members: Mike D'Antoni, Russell Lee, Randy Noll and Tyrone Collins.

The reunion festivities will span over a two day period. The 1971-72 team will meet at Marshall Hall of Fame Café on Friday, Jan 20, for a dinner reception. They will then be treated to a tour of Marshall's new athletic facilities the following Saturday. The celebratory weekend will conclude with a pregame reception for the men's basketball contest against WKU, Saturday night. The team will be honored during the game.
