HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall head women's soccer coach Kevin Long announced the addition of freshmen Canaan Booton and Annie Springer, two early enrollees for the spring semester in Huntington. The two are eligible to play immediately.

"We are thrilled to have Annie and Canaan be a part of our 2017 recruiting class," Long said. "Since we lost Sydney Arnold, we wanted to bring in players that attacked and created space. Canaan has done a fantastic job in the state of West Virginia. She has the ability to score goals, bring energy and pressure on the offensive side of the field. On the club level, she played against my daughter, so I've been able to watch her play for a while."

Booton, a 5-7 forward from Lavalette, W.Va., graduated with a 3.4 GPA one semester early from Spring Valley High School to join the Thundering Herd. She signed and enrolled at Marshall University in January and will major in sports marketing.

Booton joins the Herd after a successful career at WVFC, where she helped lead the team to win the West Virginia State Championship. While with WVFC, she played in the North/South All-Star game.

While at Spring Valley, Booton scored over 110 goals for the Timberwolves and numerous honors. She was a three-time member of the West Virginia All-State first team and earned a Mountain State Athletic Conference [MSAC] All-State selection as well.

"I choose Marshall, because it was a great fit for me," Booton said. "I grew up around here, so I was already familiar with the coaches, players and campus."

"Annie has the ability to play anywhere on the field, but her best position is probably situated on the flanks," Long said. "She can defend, is super athletic and has pace. When we watched her, we noticed she could be extremely dangerous in the offensive third, because she uses her athleticism and has a great attacking mentality."

Springer, a 5-8 forward, is a native of St. Paris, Ohio and graduated from Graham High School with a 3.8 GPA. She plans to major in nursing.

While at Graham High School, Springer was named its Offensive Player of the Year and earned the Athletic Academic Award. Springer was also a member of Ohio Premier ECNL for her club career. Springer was used primarily as a defender.

"I choose Marshall, because the coaches and players made me feel at home." Springer said. "Besides the program, I also loved the nursing program too."
