COLUMBUS, Ohio-Marshall Swimming & Diving competed Friday in the first day of the Ohio State Invitational. The meet features 11 schools including several nationally ranked sides. The morning session featured preliminary events, with qualifying athletes advancing to the evening session.

Results from the morning preliminary session were season best times by all Herd swimmers.

Sophomore Catherine Bendziewicz was the lone athlete to advance to the evening session. In the 200 IM final, Bendziewicz finished 30th overall with a time of 2:05.24. She qualified in the morning in 24th with a time of 2:02.00.

Junior Anna Lynch finished 51st in a stacked field in the 500 Freestyle. Her time of 4:58.91 finished just ahead of teammate Angelica di Marzio, who was 57th with a time of 4:59.49.

Senior Emma Lockyer was just off her lifetime best in the 200 IM, finishing just out of the top-40 that advanced. Her time of 2:04.82 came in 45th which was her second best personal performance ever. Junior Caroline Wanner finished in 59th with a time of 2:06.15.

Freshman Darby Coles was the only Marshall entry in the 50 Freestyle. She finished 84th with a time of 24.39.

Marshall divers competed on 3-Meter Board. Sophomore Maddie Young was Marshall's top finisher in 35th. Freshmen Bailey Basham and Sarah McGlumphy followed at 39th and 40th, respectively.

"This is the fastest, most high caliber meet a Marshall team has ever attended," head coach Bill Tramel said. "Of the 13 teams, nine are Power-5, Yale is the Ivy League champions, and Kenyon is the Division 3 runner-up. It's a very difficult environment. I'm really pleased with how we performed today. We only had one advance to finals, but everyone was their fastest of the season. That's progress. That's our goal with every meet, to be better than our last opportunity. We were 100 percent today. A plus."

"We hope to be able to have some second chances tomorrow," Tramel said. "This competition is great practice to learn to compete at our highest level in the morning prelims. Lots of swims tomorrow so we'll get after it."

Prelims begin Saturday at 10 a.m. The top-40 in each swimming event and top-10 divers advance to finals. #IAmBecauseWeAre
