Herd Sits Seventh after Tennessee Invite's Day One

KNOXVILLE, Tn. -- Marshall University's Swimming and Diving program sits in seventh place after Day 1 of the Tennessee Invitational.
The Thundering Herd scored its first points of the meet in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The team of Lauren Cowher, Darby Coles, Hannah Robins and Catherine Bendziewicz combined for a season-best time of 1:34.62 for a 12th place finish. Marshall's "B" Relay followed at 14th place.
Anna Lynch finished 19th overall in the 500 Free with a 4:55.73, improving significantly from her morning qualifying time.
Marshall also competed three groups in the 400 Medley Relays, the fastest finishing 19th with a season-best 3:51.43 for the team of Jordyn O'Dell, Rachel Hughes, Shir Wasserman and Anna Lynch.
The Thundering Herd's divers competed in the 1-Meter competition earlier in the evening. Maddie Young and Bailey Basham scored for the Herd, finishing 15th and 16th, respectively.
"We had a very good night, we just needed more opportunities," said Marshall head coach Bill Tramel. "We had some breakthroughs and if we come out with focus tomorrow morning, we will have those opportunities at finals."
The Invitational continues tomorrow morning with prelims beginning at 10 a.m.
