HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Marshall women's tennis team won three singles matches but came up short against the Louisville Cardinals, dropping a 4-3 decision Friday night at the Huntington Tennis Club.

The Herd (5-3) opened the match with a doubles win at the No. 3 spot. Stephanie Smith and Daniela Dankanych defeated Olivia Boesing and Tiffany Huber, 6-4. Derya Turhan and Anna Pomyatinskaya fell to Abbie Pahz and Mariana Humberg, 6-4. Louisville (8-1) clinched the doubles point when Ariana Rodriguez and Jessie Paul defeated Maddie Silver and Rachael Morales, 6-4.

The Herd opened singles play with a pair of quick wins but won just one of the final four matches. Silver defeated Pahz, 6-0, 6-4, and Turhan defeated Aleksandra Mally, 6-4, 6-1. Pomyatinskaya won in three sets over Rodriguez, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Smith fell in a tough three-set match against Humberg, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Morales fell in two tough sets against Huber, 7-6, 7-5. Dankanych fell against Boesing in the deciding match, 0-6, 6-4, 7-5.
