IRVING, Texas, - Marshall softball senior pitcher Jordan Dixon was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league office announced Monday.

"Dixon had a special weekend and was outstanding for us in the circle," Herd coach Shonda Stanton said. "Whenever we needed a big pitch she stepped up. She is proving to be one of the best pitchers in the league."

Dixon claimed her first weekly award of 2017 on April 7 after winning three more contests, all shutouts with one no-hitter, and recording her 1,000th career strikeout at Southern Miss.

This week (April 5-9), Dixon won three more games and picked up her second save of the season. The senior ace pitched 24 innings over four games, struck out 29 and scattered out 15 hits. She ended 12 of the 24 innings with a strikeout.

After defeating Wright State on April 5, Dixon won the first two games of the series against Florida Atlantic at Dot Hicks Field. She entered the third game in the fifth inning with the Herd leading 1-0 and earned the save as she shutdown the Owls offense through the final three innings.

Dixon has not lost a game since Feb. 26, winning her last 16-straight starts. She now stands just one win away from the 100th of her career. The Edmond, Okla., native has helped lead the Herd to a 32-5 overall record and a 14-1 start in conference play. Dixon has recorded over 200 strikeouts (211) for the fourth time in her career and is among the nation's leaders in wins at 23-4 including 10-0 in conference games.

The Herd will take the field next, Tuesday April 11, at Kentucky for a single game at 6 p.m.
