HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University ninth-year head women's soccer coach Kevin Long announced the schedule of the 2017 season on Wednesday. The Herd's 19-game slate includes eight home matches at Hoops Family Field and 11 games on the road.

"We are excited about the 2017 schedule," Long said. "As always, our conference schedule will be competitive. Each game will be hard fought, because of how close our results have been in the last several years. I look forward to the competitive spirit each game will bring."

Marshall will kick off the 2017 campaign with four consecutive away contests in the month of August, before hosting its first home game of the season.

"In our non-conference schedule, we play some teams we haven't seen in a while, or have never played," Long said. "We look forward to continuing play against Dayton, Longwood and Ohio University. We start the season with some familiar teams in exhibition. We will know exactly where we stand before playing our first official game vs. UT-Martin. That first road trip should be adventurous. It features two teams we don't know much about, but they are playing at a high level within their respective conferences."

The Herd will open the season with two straight exhibition games when it travels to Richmond, Ky., to take on EKU (Aug. 9) and then again at James Madison (Aug. 13) in Harrisonburg, Va. Marshall will then open its regular season in Martin, Tenn., when it plays UT-Martin (Aug. 18) and then will take on Murray State (Aug. 20) in Murray, Ky. The Herd will close out the month of August with its first home game of the season when it welcomes Longwood (Aug. 27).

Marshall will open up the month of September in Dayton, Ohio when it plays Dayton (Sept. 1), before hosting two consecutive home matches against Gardner-Webb (Sept. 3) and Ohio (Sept. 8). The Herd will open up league play on the road against Charlotte (Sept. 15) and then will conclude its non-conference schedule when it takes on High Point (Sept. 17).

"Over the next several years, we will see more of High Point and Gardner-Webb, two teams that will make sure we are playing at our highest level as we enter our conference schedule," Long said.

Marshall's C-USA home slate includes games against North Texas (Sept. 21), Southern Miss (Sept. 24), La. Tech (Sept. 29), FIU (Oct. 13) and Florida Atlantic (Oct. 15). In addition to playing at Charlotte, the Herd will be on the road for conference play against UAB (Oct. 6), Middle Tennessee (Oct. 8), UTEP (Oct. 19) and will close out the regular season with WKU (Oct. 27).

"C-USA travel is always a beast, however, I can't really complain this year with our flights and difficulty with travel," Long said. "I know those last two road games will be heated contests and if previous seasons are an indicator, they will have heavy impact in the standings and who makes the conference tournament."

This year's C-USA Tournament will be hosted by Florida Atlantic and will be held from Nov. 1-7 in Boca Raton, Fla.
