IRVING, Texas - The 23rd ranked, and Conference USA Regular Season Champions, Marshall softball team has a first round bye in the conference tournament as the championship bracket was released Sunday. The Thundering Herd plays its first game of the tournament on Thursday May 11 at 3 p.m. EDT.
The Herd secured the top spot in the conference with a win Friday in game one against UAB and a loss by Louisiana Tech. Marshall ended the regular season with an overall record of 40-8 and 20-4 in conference action.
The first day of the tournament is single elimination as the five through eight seeds play. The winners move on to play a second game on Wednesday against the three and four seeds. The final two winners from Wednesday move on to the Thursday quarterfinals, which begins double elimination. The championship game on Saturday, May 13, is a single-game.
Each game of the tournament will be broadcast on either beIN Connect or beIN Sports. The championship game will be on CBS Sports. All of Marshall's games will be broadcast on 88.1 WMUL and online at www.marshall.edu/wmul.
The teams on the side of the bracket with Marshall are UAB (five seed), WKU (eight) and Florida Atlantic (four). On the other side of the bracket are Charlotte (six), North Texas (seven), Louisiana Tech (three) and FIU (two).
