SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Marshall women's golf team closed out a successful first round in a tie for second at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational. Sophomore Kerri Parks recorded seven total birdies and leads the field after a career-best 5-under 67.
"It was a great start for us today," Herd head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "We kept it together and they are always a fun crew to watch. We still have two days to climb up the leaderboard, though. I saw many great shots today and even after some that weren't our best, we found a way to make par. I tell them there is always a way to save par and today we did just that.
"Kerri played great and has the confidence to continue to play well."
The Thundering Herd finished the day with a 3-under team score of 285, and is tied with the Houstonj Cougars. Marshall recorded a total of 16 birdies.
