BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Marshall women's soccer team lost in the season finale, 2-0, Friday night at WKU. Herd junior keeper Megan Bonelli recorded six saves and has 201 in her career.
The Thundering Herd end the 2018 season with an overall record of 5-9-3 and 3-6-1 in Conference USA play. The Lady Toppers improve to 5-8-4 overall and 3-5-2 in conference action.
"It's tough playing on such an emotional night," Herd head coach Kevin Long said. "I couldn't ask for more effort than we gave against a good WKU team. Our seniors finished this game with the same commitment and effort they provided throughout their career. Each will go on a different but equally fantastic path and we wish them the very best.
"Those returning will bounce back while we focus on maximizing the many positives we can pull from this season."
The Lady Toppers took the first three shots of the match early in the first half but couldn't manage to find the back of the net. Marshall then began to find some offensive timing after its first shot in the 19th minute. WKU got on the board first with a goal in the 26th minute. Both teams totaled seven shots each and two on goal; however, the Lady Toppers took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
WKU came out in the second half looking to increase its lead, taking the first three shots of the half again. Bonelli came away with two saves while the third shot was blocked. The Lady Toppers extended the lead to 2-0 in the 72nd minute and Marshall did not recover.
Senior Jenna Zuzolo finished with two shots on goal while sophomore Rene Ross had Marshall's third shot on goal.
