Third all-conference honor for Seltzer, first for M. Abu-Tayeh

All-Conference USA Teams

NORFOLK, Va. – Marshall women's soccer senior defender Ashley Seltzer and junior forward Marah Abu-Tayeh were named to All-Conference USA teams, the league announced Tuesday afternoon. Seltzer was named all-conference third team and Abu-Tayeh is a second team selection.

It was the third all-conference recognition for Seltzer, and the first for Abu-Tayeh.

Seltzer was named all-conference second team in 2017 and an all-freshman team selection in 2015 as a forward. Seltzer moved to defender for her senior season but she was still used for her leg strength and eye for the goal on penalty kicks. The Herd was granted two PKs this season, Seltzer took both, and scored both times. The Knoxville, Tenn., native finishes her Herd career with eight goals, nine assists and 5,796 minutes played. As a defender in 2018, Seltzer started every match and played all 1,600 minutes. She also totaled 18 shots with eight on goal.

"Ashley has been such a staple in our line-up," coach Long said of his senior. "Consistently able to positively impact a game in whatever position we play her in. She has been such a good leader for us and I am thrilled that she will once again be recognized by the coaches in our conference for her solid play."

Abu-Tayeh moved to forward full-time this season for the first time in her Marshall career. She responded with a team-leading eight goals, one assist and 17 points. Her eight goals is tied for the seventh most in a season in program history. The Williamsville, Ill., native scored her first career goal for the game-winner against EKU. She scored both of the Herd's goals in a 2-1, overtime victory at UTEP. Six of her eight goals came in conference play. The junior forward totaled 36 shots with 20 on goal.

"Marah has played just about anywhere we have asked her and this year, her combination of speed and attacking mentality made it hard for defenders all year," Herd head coach Kevin Long said. "I look forward to seeing her build on this very humbling award from the conference."
