VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Marshall women's golf team set a team record in the second round of the Princess Anne Invitational on Saturday. The Herd shot a team score of 283, the best round of the day from all 12 teams.
Marshall sits in fifth place, moving up two spots from round one.
"This team is so much fun to watch especially when they are playing well," Herd head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "We hit so many good shots and fought back after the few bad ones. To have the lowest round of the day against some of the best teams in the country shows Marshall women's golf is going in the right direction."
Marshall's 3-over 283 broke the old team-mark of 290 most recently tied this season in the second round of the William & Mary Invitational on Sept. 9. The Herd improved by 12 strokes from the first round. Xavier had the second-best score in the second round at 285.
Junior Shelby Brauckmuller leads the way in a tie for fourth place. Brauckmuller improved by two shots and ended the day with a 1-under 69. Sophomore Stormy Randazzo also shot a 69 in the second round and jumped up 23 spots on the leaderboard to a tie for 17th. Senior Ylva Forslund improved by three strokes and sophomore Kerri Parks jumped 10 spots with a 12-stroke improvement on day two.
Sacramento State is in the lead with a team score of 573 after two rounds, just two strokes ahead of Campbell and UCF. Marshall is just five shots back off the lead.
Virunpat Olankitkunchai of Maryland is still in the lead with a 4-under 136. She leads Elizabeth Moon of UCF by two shots.
Marshall begins the third and final round Sunday at 8 a.m. on the first hole. Parks is the first Herd golfer to tee off followed by Forslund (8:12 a.m.), Jackie Schmidt (8:24 a.m.), Randazzo (8:36 a.m.) and Brauckmuller (8:48 a.m.)
