Herd returns to the Cam Henderson Center for back-to-back contests
BOONE, N.C. – The Marshall women's basketball team fell, 74-52, on the road at Appalachian State, Sunday afternoon in the Holmes Convocation Center.
The Thundering Herd falls to 1-4 and the Mountaineers improve to 4-2.
"We cannot fall back after an improvement," Herd head coach Tony Kemper said. "I feel like our shot selection today was not the best. We rushed it at some points and we can't do that. We need to work on our communication as well this week."
Redshirt junior Khadaijia Brooks began the game hitting a three right on the first possession. Appalachian State then ran off an 11-0 run before Brooks ended it with another three, with 2:35 to go in the first. Marshall was able to keep it close until late in the second quarter. The Herd trailed by 15 at the half.
The two teams traded baskets throughout the second half, until late in the fourth when the Mountaineers began to pull away a little further.
Brooks tied her career-high with four made three-pointers. Junior Ashley Saintigene also saw her first action of the season in coming back from a knee injury suffered in December of 2017.
Marshall returns to the Cam Henderson Center for back-to-back contests with Evansville (Nov. 29) and Coppin State (Dec. 1). The Herd's next road contest is at Wisconsin on Dec. 4.
