Senior defender is a three-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll
CHARLOTTE – Marshall men's soccer senior defender John Pappas was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, the organization announced Thursday.
CoSIDA is the College Sports Information Directors of America and the Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athlete for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Pappas is now eligible to advance to the Academic All-America ballot, which will be announced in early December.
"John is an excellent and diligent student," Herd head coach Chris Grassie said. "He works really hard on his studies and always goes above and beyond just class and study hours. He goes the extra mile and I'm happy for him that he is being recognized for that. He has a clear career goal in mind and he deserves this recognition for combining his soccer and academic success."
Pappas, a criminal justice major, is a three-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and is in line to make it four-for-four in his collegiate career. The Oceanside, N.Y., native received the C-USA Academic Medal in 2017-18 for maintaining a grade point average of 3.75 or better.
Pappas has appeared in all 19 of Marshall's games this fall with 16 starts. He has logged a career-high 1,694 minutes this season.
The senior defender's career continues as the men's soccer team takes the field Friday at 4:30 p.m., in the semifinal round of the Conference USA Championship Tournament against top-seeded Kentucky.
