Flames emerge victorious

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University's Swimming and Diving team dropped the first of two scheduled dual meets with Liberty on Friday, this one by a score of 151-89.

The Herd got solid performances from Elisha Walker and Maddie Young. Walker won both the 500 Free (5:07.06) and 1000 Free (10:27.78), while Young earned a spot in the NCAA 1-meter Zone Diving Championship later this season with a score of 271.36.

"Maddie Young did exceptional tonight," said head coach Ian Walsh. "She qualified for NCAA Zones on 1-meter, the first stepping stone in pursuing an NCAA qualifying spot. Elisha Walker put together two great races tonight and executed them very well."

"I was really pleased with the effort, top to bottom, tonight. There are some details that can be cleaned up as we head into our second session tomorrow morning. Everyone had at least one season-best this evening. The team is moving in a positive direction and we're looking forward to another opportunity to race tomorrow morning."

The Herd will take on Liberty again Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
