Softball Announces 2019 Schedule

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall softball head coach Megan Smith announced the team's 2019 schedule on Monday.

The Herd will feature 19 home games at Dot Hicks Field including great contests against Kentucky (March 20), Louisville (April 9) and Pittsburgh (May 1).

The Thundering Herd will begin the season on Feb. 8 at the University of San Diego Tournament. Marshall's first opponent is UC-Riverside, a team that the Herd last faced in 2008. Marshall is scheduled to face the University of San Diego, Cal Poly and Portland State as well in the five-game tournament.

The Herd's other tournaments will be the Battle at the Beach (Feb. 15-17 in Conway, S.C.) hosted by Coastal Carolina, the Holy City Showdown (Feb. 22-24 in Charleston, S.C.) co-hosted by the College of Charleston and Charleston Southern, and the Cherry Blossom Festival (March 8-10 in Fairfax, Va.) hosted by George Mason.

Marshall's first of the 19 scheduled home games is set for Feb. 27 against one of the Herd's oldest rivals in the Ohio Bobcats. Marshall will also play Rider University in a three-game series on March 2-3 at Dot Hicks Field.

Along with the early season tournaments, the Herd will play four road non-conference games. Marshall travels to Morehead, Ky., to play the Morehead State Eagles in a doubleheader on March 6. The Herd then heads east to play single games at Longwood (March 26) and James Madison (March 27).

In Conference USA action, Marshall begins on the road at Charlotte (March 16-17). The Herd's other road conference games are at Southern Miss (March 30-31), at FIU (April 13-14), and at defending C-USA Tournament Champions Middle Tennessee (April 27-28).

Marshall's home conference games are against UTSA (March 23-24), WKU (April 6-7), Louisiana Tech (April 19-20) and senior weekend against Florida Atlantic (May 4-5).

The Conference USA Championship Tournament is set for May 8-11, in Birmingham, Ala.

All games will be broadcast on 88.1 WMUL-FM with audio streamed online at www.marshall.edu/wmul through one of the Listen Live links. Selected early season neutral games will also be simulcast on Facebook Live through the Marshall University Softball Facebook page. Home games will also be streamed on HerdVision on CUSAtv.
