Last time out - vs. Towson Dec. 22 - L, 76-69
The Herd could not hang on in the second half after leading by 12 at the half as the Towson Tigers stormed back for the win. Marshall began the game with a quick comeback in the final minute of the first quarter with a 7-0 run to take a two-point lead, 19-17. The Herd then shot 47.4 percent in the second quarter and held Towson to just 10 points to build out the 12-point halftime lead of 39-27. The Tigers outscored Marshall 26-14 in the third and had the game tied at 53-53 going into the fourth. The Herd struggled again in the final period as Towson forced several turnovers. Redshirt senior Taylor Porter led Marshall in scoring with 15 points and grabbed six rebounds. Senior Shayna Gore scored 13 points, dished out four assists and had four steals. Junior Ashley Saintigene tied a career-high with six blocks in the contest as Marshall recorded 10 blocks as a team. Turnovers in the end doomed the Herd with 12 in the second half. The Tigers also outrebounded the Herd by 11 in the second half as well.

Thieves on the Floor
Marshall has ripped off 118 steals and leads Conference USA with 9.83 thefts per game. 52.7 percent (118-of-214) of the opposition's turnovers have come from a steal. Shayna Gore leads the team with 24 steals and has recorded at least one in 10-of-12 games. Kristen Mayo is next with 20 steals. Taylor Porter (18) and Kia Sivils (17) are right behind and both had a season-high of five steals with Porter against Bluefield State and Sivils at Appalachian State. Gore (7th - 2.0) and Mayo (9th - 1.7) both rank in the top 10 in C-USA in steals per game. Add in Porter (11th - 1.5) and Sivils (14th - 1.4) and Marshall has more players in the top-15 than any other team in conference.

SWAT Party
Marshall leads Conference USA in blocked shots per game, averaging 5.42 rejections and 65 overall. UTSA is second with 3.55 per game. Against Towson, The Herd recorded a season-high with 10 swats and it was the first time Marshall has recorded double-digit blocks since rejecting 11 against FIU on Dec. 30, 2016. Ashley Saintigene tied her career-high with six against the Tigers. The Herd blocked at least seven shots in three-straight games (Dec. 1-8) and has recorded at least two blocked shots in each game this season. Marshall's string of at least two blocked shots is 14-straight games going back to last season. The last time Marshall did not record at least two blocks was Feb. 22, 2018 at Rice.

Scouting the Hornets
Delaware State comes to Huntington after having dropped its last three games at Xavier (80-59), at Cornell (94-59) and at Robert Morris (64-63). The Hornets lost the heartbreaker to Robert Morris as a last second shot just missed off the rim. Delaware State has a minus-14.6 point differential this season, but the team is shooting 40 percent from the floor. The Hornets struggle from outside hitting just 25 percent. Opponents have outrebounded Delaware State by just over seven boards per game. Senior NaJai Pollard leads the team in scoring (23.7 points per game), rebounding (9.8 boards per game) and blocks (19). Pollard has also put herself well into the record books at Delaware State as she has 1,561 points and needs 72 more to become the programs fourth all-time leading scorer. She is the Hornets fourth leading rebounder all-time as well with 834 boards. Junior Lanayjha Ashe is second on the team in scoring with 12.7 points per game and leads in assists with 24. As a team, the Hornets have 59 steals this season and are forcing opponents into almost 17 turnovers per contest. Delaware State is committing an average of 19.2 turnovers per game.
