Final Stats

HOUSTON, Tx. - Rice's women's basketball team connected on a school-record 18 3-pointers to defeat Marshall 87-44 Thursday evening in Tudor Fieldhouse.

The Owls improved to 19-6 overall and 9-4 in C-USA while the Thundering Herd dropped to 8-19 and 2-12 in the league. With the loss, Marshall has been eliminated in the race for a berth in next month's Conference USA Tournament.

Rice was led by Nicole Iademaro's 24 points (20 in the first half) which came on 9-for-14 shooting from the field, including a 6-for-11 effort from 3-point range. Wendy Knight had 14 points, followed by Sydne Wiggins (13), Lauren Grigsby (12) and Erica Ogwumike (11). Grigsby also posted a career-high seven assists. Iademarco, Knight and Stanton all notched a game-high six rebounds as well.

Marshall was led by Shayna Gore's 13 points, while Talequia Hamilton and Taylor Pearson chipped in 11 apiece. Pearson secured a team-high five rebounds and Kristen Mayo tallied four assists.

Rice held big advantages in assists (21-9), second chance points (14-3) and bench points (27-12). The Owls actually committed more turnovers than the Thundering Herd (16-14), but finished with a 17-3 edge in points off those miscues.

Marshall went ahead 5-3 on a Logan Fraley 3-pointer nearly three minutes into the game, but Rice outscored the visitors 17-6 over the rest of the first quarter to grab control of the game.

"It certainly wasn't a lot of fun," said Marshall head coach Tony Kemper. "You have to give credit to Rice because they made those shots and Coach (Tina) Langley has an excellent team."

"At this point, we know where and when the end of the season is going to be and I have challenged our group in terms of how we're going to handle ourselves, moving forward."

The Thundering Herd will travel to North Texas for an 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT tip on Saturday in a game that will be carried on ESPN3.
