HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Malia Kency nailed six 3-pointers en route to 21 points as visiting Florida Atlantic defeated Marshall 62-55 Thursday evening in the Cam Henderson Center.

The Owls improved to 13-13 overall and 7-8 in Conference USA, while the Thundering Herd finished its season at 9-20 and 3-13 in the league.

Raven Doyle had a monster game with 15 points and 15 rebounds and Danneal Ford was in the neighborhood of a triple-double with 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

Marshall was led by Shayna Gore's 22 points (8-for-16 shooting) and five assists. Senior Talequia Hamilton had six points and 10 rebounds in her final Thundering Herd contest. Taylor Pearson also chipped in 12 off the bench.

FAU had a significant edge in rebounds (50-33; 12-5 offensive) and second chance points (12-0).

The game was tied at 11 after one quarter of play, but the Owls held Marshall to a 2-for-17 clip in the second to take a 29-20 lead into the half.

The Thundering Herd closed the contest to one (52-51) on a Gore layup with 2:57 left, but FAU responded with five points by Doyle and two Ford free throws to put the issue out of reach.

"It's obviously a disappointing outcome and certainly not how we wanted to send out Talequia, who is one of the better players to come through our program," said Marshall head coach Tony Kemper. "The stats prove that. She has been very productive since she got here."

"You definitely have to credit Florida Atlantic. I thought they played tremendous. Early in the game, they were very hard to score against and were very physical, doing an excellent job rebounding the ball. We made a run at them in the fourth and executed well ... we just got nothing to show for it. We got the ball right where we wanted to on several possessions, it just didn't go down. I was pleased with the way we ran our stuff, but you have to step up and knock them in if you're going to get over the hump."

Hamilton finished her Marshall career with 135 blocked shots, good for third in the Thundering Herd's all-time records.
