Parks Earns Best League Finish for Herd Since 2012

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Freshman Marshall women's golfer Kerri Parks finished the Conference USA Championship in a tie for 11th place on Wednesday afternoon at Verandah Club, which was the top finish for a Herd freshman in the league tournament since Korakot Simsiriwong finished in a tie for seventh during the 2012 championship.
"This is not how we planned for things to go, but the only thing we can do is learn from this experience," head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "Kerri and Shelby (Brauckmuller) had great rounds today and I'm proud of how hard they fought to keep things steady all day. Now we have to get back and focus all of our attention on school and prepare for next season."
Parks' final score of 223 was the best overall score for a member of the Thundering Herd in the C-USA Championship since Pimrawee Huang finished with a 217 during the 2015 tournament.
Parks' impressive tournament was capped by a final score of 4-under on par 5s and average of 4.67, which led the field after three days. The freshman also finished with the most eagles among all individuals (one), had seven birdies and 32 pars through 54 holes. Parks third round was a 2-over 73.
Sophomore Shelby Brauckmuller bounced back from round two and had a third round score of 3-over 74, which helped move her into a tie for 31st place she finished the tournament with a 14-over 230. The sophomore also completed the tournament with 37 pars, which was tied for third among the field. Overall, Marshall finished in 10th place with a final score of 50-over 914 to complete its 2017-18 campaign.
Through 54 holes, UTSA swept both the team and individual awards. The Roadrunners won the tournament with a final score 10-over 874, which beat UTEP by 13 strokes. Individually, UTSA's Julie Houston defeated her teammate, Ana Gonzalez, by one stroke and an overall score of 4-under 212.
