SAN ANTONION, Texas - The Marshall softball team lost 2-1 at UTSA in the series finale with the Roadrunners Sunday afternoon. The Thundering Herd won the series two games to one as Marshall took the Saturday doubleheader.

Marshall is now 18-20-1 overall and 8-6-1 in Conference USA. UTSA improves to 16-18 and 5-7 in conference.

"We had a few good chances to put the game away and it didn't fall our way," Herd head coach Jen Steele said. "Both D'Orazio and Harrell hit the ball hard with runners in scoring position. Sometimes you have to tip your cap.

"I thought we did a nice job in all facets of the game this weekend. It's tough to win on the road and we secured the series win. I hope we can continue building on this momentum as we start our home swing. We can't wait to be in front of our fans at the Dot."

The Herd scored first in the top of the second inning. Junior Briana Daiss led off with a double and then scored on a throwing error by the pitcher attempting to retire sophomore Blakely Burch at first. The throw rolled into right field and allowed Daiss to cross the plate.

The Roadrunners scored two in the bottom of the fifth as Bailee Baldwin hit her 15th home run of the season to give UTSA the lead. Marshall had opportunities in the sixth and the seventh but the Roadrunners held on defensively for the win.

Junior Abigail Tolbert received the start and went the distance for Marshall. The two runs scored in game three were the only runs Tolbert gave up during the series in 16 innings pitched.

Seniors Jordan Colliflower and Elicia D'Orazio each continued their hitting streaks. Colliflower recorded a base hit in the sixth and increased her hitting streak to 21 games. D'Orazio finished with two hits and now has an 11-game hitting streak, the second longest of her career. D'Orazio had a 15-game streak in 2017. The Clermont, Fla., native also moved ahead of former Marshall great Carrie Hinkle for sixth all-time with 234 hits.
