Parks Wins Michigan Women's Amateur Championship

Sophomore wins championship match in playoff
REDFORD, Mich. — Marshall sophomore golfer Kerri Parks was crowned the winner of the 102nd Michigan Women's Amateur Championship Friday at the Western Golf and Country Club.
Parks defeated Loyola University Chicago senior Elayna Bowser, 1-up, in a playoff in the championship match.
"Kerri winning the Michigan Women's Amateur is awesome and I am really proud of her," head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "I know she will carry the momentum from this win into the upcoming fall season which I'm excited about. She's a tough competitor and I look for her to be a strong asset for our program once again this year."
Parks placed in a tie for fourth during the 36-hole stroke play portion of the tournament and was seeded fourth heading in to the 32-player match play portion.
Parks defeated Naomi Keyre in the round of 32, 3 and 2, Anastassia Lee in the round of 16, 4 and 3, Danielle Staskowski in the quarterfinals, 4 and 3, and Sarah Shipley in the semifinals, 3 and 2, before defeating Bowser on the 19th hole of the championship match.
"I was just really happy to win one of the most prestigious events in Michigan," Parks said. "It showed that my hard work has paid off. It's really great to end the summer on a high note and I'd like to continue that into the school season."
Parks and the Herd open the fall season September 3 at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational. The two-day tournament is hosted by Youngstown State at the Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio.
