WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Marshall women's golf team swept the top of the standings at the William & Mary Invitational Monday afternoon. The Herd held off Richmond to take the team award and junior Shelby Brauckmuller finished with a 6-under 210 to take the individual trophy.
The William & Mary Invitational is the sixth tournament win for the Herd under third-year head coach Brooke Burkhammer.
"It was another great day for the Herd," coach Burkhammer said. "Wasn't our best but I always tell them every shot counts. Today was proof of that. We fought hard and I can't be more proud of them.
"Shelby is a such a player and was huge for us this week with the under par rounds. Marshall women's golf is going in the right direction and I can't wait to see how the rest of the season ends up. Herd Wins!"
Brauckmuller's score of 210 is a personal best and as well as her first collegiate win. It was also her seventh career finish in the top-10.
The Thundering Herd held off the Richmond Spiders and won by one-stroke. Marshall scored a program-best 290 in the second round on Sunday.
Brauckmuller tied for the most birdies in the tournament with 12. Sophomore Kerri Parks and freshman Jackie Schmidt recorded seven birdies each.
