Women’s Golf Set to Begin 2018-19 Season at Roseann Schwartz Invitational
9/2/2018 5:02:00 PM | Women's Golf
Tournament hosted at Mill Creek Golf Course, Sept. 3-4
BOARDMEN, Ohio – The Marshall's women's golf team will tee off the 2018-19 season Monday morning at the fifth annual Roseann Schwartz Invitational, hosted by Youngstown State. The tournament will take place at the Mill Creek Golf Course.
There will not be any live scoring for the tournament.
Playing in the event for the Thundering Herd will be junior Shelby Brauckmuller, sophomore Kerri Parks, sophomore Stormy Randazzo, freshman Jackie Schmidt and senior Ylva Forslund.
"These girls have worked hard this summer to make sure we have a great year," Herd head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "I'm excited about this team because we are competitive and very talented. It's going to be a fun year for Herd Women's Golf."
In 2017, Marshall began the year at the Roseann Schwartz Invite and came away with the team championship. Brauckmuller and Forslund both tied for second overall with Randazzo (sixth) and Sarfina Seretharan (ninth) also placing in the top ten.
Marshall returns a strong and experienced lineup this season with only losing 2018 senior Leigha Holt. Along with Schmidt, the Herd welcomes in freshmen Torren Kalaskey and Isabel Vance. Schmidt is a native of Galt, Calif. Kalaskey hails from Charleston, W.Va., and Vance is from Huntington, W.Va.
Along with Marshall and the host school Youngstown State, the tournament will feature six other schools: Cleveland State, Indiana State, St. Francis, Fort Wayne, Niagara and Mount St. Mary's.
The event will begin Monday, Sept. 3, at 8 a.m. The first Herd golfer to tee off will be Forslund in her group at 8:10 a.m. The rest of Marshall's players will all tee off before 9 a.m. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
The Mill Creek Golf Course measures 5,957 yards and is a par 72. The event is named in honor of Roseann Schwartz, the head coach of the Youngstown State women's golf team from 1996-2013.
