Junior forward scored two goals and one assist over past two matches

IRVING, Texas – Junior Marah Abu-Tayeh was named Conference USA women's soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, the league office announced.

"It is exciting for our program to have a player recognized as offensive player of the week," Herd head coach Kevin Long said. "Marah is playing well for us and is representing a team committed to attack.  I know our whole team is proud of Marah and our entire team's offensive push over the last week."

It is the first weekly honor for Abu-Tayeh. She shares the award this week with Peyton DePriest of Middle Tennessee.

Abu-Tayeh had a tremendous week in helping the Herd get back on the winning side in Conference USA play. She recorded two goals and had one assist as Marshall went 2-0 over the week. The junior forward led a second half charge at UTEP after the Herd trailed 1-0 and lost its starting keeper to injury. Abu-Tayeh knocked in her first goal of the night in the 78th minute to tie the match at 1-1. She then squared up a deflection in the second overtime and put it in the back of the net for the golden goal to give Marshall a hard-fought, road victory. It was the first two-goal game of her career. The Williamsville, Ill., native recorded seven total shots and had four on goal against the Miners.

In the weekend finale at home versus FIU, Abu-Tayeh again helped the Herd get on board in very wet and sloppy conditions with an assist to her twin sister Farah Abu-Tayeh in the 52nd minute. The goal led to a momentum shift as Marshall was trailing 2-0 prior to the score. The Herd scored three unanswered goals to grab the win.

M. Abu-Tayeh is tied for the team lead in goals with five and has one assist this season.

This is the first weekly award for the Herd since Emily Moreland on Aug. 29, 2016 (Goalkeeper of the Week) and the first offensive player of the week since Kelly Culicerto was honored on Nov. 2, 2015.

Marshall returns to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 28 at Old Dominion. It is the start of a three-game conference road swing that also includes Charlotte (Sept. 30) and UTSA (Oct. 7). The Herd will be back at Hoops Family Field on Oct. 12 against Rice.
